Create Spiky Hairdos
Q: Are special cutting techniques used to create spiky hairdos? I'm 60, and a medium-short spiky hairdo is great for my face.
I've cut my own hair for three years but can't quite achieve those pointy ends even after trying many products for that purpose.
This is the look I'm going for, but the ends of my hair seem too thick or too straight.
How to cut spiky hair with clippersI use the basic circle haircut.
A: Based on the photo you sent in, I think you're on the right track with using a circle cut, but you're missing the crucial addition of texturing the finished haircut. I recommend using the point cutting technique to work your way through the whole head snipping the ends of the hair into points.
Do this by separating the hair into slices roughly 2 inches wide and 1 inch thick.
Comb them out (the hair should be kept damp) and cut the ends by directing the scissors inward toward the scalp. Cut notches into the ends of the hair at (at least) a 60-degree angle. The angle can be varied based on the density and texture of your hair.
